Adam Sandler Says Eminem’s ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ Cameo Was To…

Happy Gilmore 2 offers more than just the return of everyone’s favorite underdog golfer; it also features a hilarious new character played by Eminem. Adam Sandler said the role was so funny, it was worth reaching out to get the rap legend on board.

Sandler opened up about Eminem’s surprise appearance in the film during an interview on The Dan Patrick Show. He admitted he initially didn’t want to bother the rapper, but ultimately couldn’t resist asking him to join the cast.

“I love Eminem. I’m friends with Eminem, but I don’t want to bother the man,” Sandler told Patrick. “And everybody kept saying, ‘Man, Eminem would be so funny in this part.’”

He added, “I was like, ‘I don’t want to ruin this guy’s time. He’s hanging out. He’s in Detroit. He’s doing his life making records.’”

Sandler eventually realized the role would be even funnier with the rapper involved. He decided, “Let me bug Marshall and give him a call and say, ‘Dude, I know it’s a pain in the a**, but it’s pretty funny.’”

He asked the rap giant, “You mind shooting out to us for a day?” Eminem responded, “Yeah, yeah, send me the stuff.”

Sandler concluded, “And then it goes like that. That’s how it goes down.”

Eminem and Sandler first met on the Saturday Night Live set in 1999. At the time, the comedian was no longer starring on the late-night comedy sketch series.

“I remember the first time I met him. I was at SNL. I wasn’t on the show anymore,” Sandler began.

“And I was at a table with all my guys and he was the musical guest with Dre and we were at the afterparty, and then Marshall walked by our table and he he looked at me and I looked at him, like, ‘Oh yeah, that kid’s pretty damn cool,’ and then he goes ‘Bobby Boucher,’ something like that. I go, ‘Oh yes, that’s what’s up, Marshall.’ And then we became friendly after that.”

Happy Gilmore 2 is currently airing on Netflix.
