Hoka Mafate 5 Running Shoe Release Date

Hoka is bringing more integrity to its flagship trail running shoe — rocker integrity, that is.

The Hoka Mafate 5 marks the debut of Rocker Integrity Technology, which employs a curved TPU plate to ensure the rocker-shaped sole maintains its shape as mileage piles up. This light and pliable plate is sandwiched between a firmer SCF EVA foam directly underfoot and the softer CMEVA foam beneath it. It also helps with absorption for uneven terrain, and closest to the ground is a Vibram Megagrip outsole with Traction Lugs.

A new flow molded TPU cage provides 360-degree protection on the warp-knit upper and features etching of the map Hoka Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc ultramarathon. An ankle gaiter integration system that can be purchased separately also makes its first appearance in a Hoka shoe to bolster protection.

A men’s size 10 comes in at 332 grams, and each pair features an 8mm drop.

“We know the unique challenges ultra-runners face when on the trail,” Rebekah Broe, Hoka senior director of product for Performance Footwear, said in a release. “That’s why we’ve developed a shoe that meets their specific needs, offering durability to withstand the harshest environments, adaptability to adjust to varying terrains, and comfort to keep them going. We know every stride counts, and our updates to the Mafate 5 will give runners the confidence and support they need to tackle the trail, no matter how grueling it gets out there.”

Hoka is partnering with Strava to celebrate the release of the Mafate 5 with a challenge to run 109.6 miles from Aug. 8 through Sept. 12. Those who complete the challenge will be entered to win a trip to next year’s Hoka UTMB race, or any other UTMB race of their choice, plus the Mafate 5 and other gear. Five additional winners will get the Mafate 5 and apparel.
