Brad Pitt’s Mother, Jane Etta Pitt, Dies at 84

Brad Pitt’s mother, Jane Etta Pitt, has died at the age of 84.

As reported by TMZ, sources close to the Pitt family said that she died in the last couple of days, and a close family member shared a tribute to her on Instagram.

While she mostly kept private despite her son’s unavoidable fame, Jane Etta Pitt occasionally accompanied the actor to the premieres of his movies and went to the 84th Academy Awards with him in 2012.

Brad Pitt was raised by his mother, a former counselor, and his father, William, in Springfield, Missouri. His parents had two other children, Doug and Julie.

In a post on Instagram, Brad Pitt’s niece, Sydney Pitt, shared several photos of her grandmother with a written tribute.

“My sweet Grammy, Jane Etta, we were not ready for you to go yet but knowing you are finally free to sing, dance, and paint again makes it a tad easier,” she wrote. “I don’t know how we move forward without her. But I know she’s still here in every brushstroke, every kind gesture, every hummingbird. She was love in its purest form.”

She added that the 84-year-old had no issue keeping up with all 14 of her grandchildren and that there “was no limit to the love she gave.”

Sydney Pitt said that every year, without fail, the matriarch would dedicate a “special day” to each of her grandchildren, in which they would get to do whatever it is they wanted.

“She taught me how to paint, how to be strong, how to lead with kindness, to love Jesus through everything, and to find joy in the smallest things,” she wrote.

Brad Pitt most recently shared his appreciation for his mom during an interview with Savannah Guthrie on the Today show in June while promoting his film F1.

“I gotta say hi to my mom because she watches you every morning,” he said. “To Jane Pitt. Love you, Mom.”

The actor and his siblings previously donated $1 million to a Missouri hospital in 2009, where a new pediatric cancer center opened that was named after her.

Jane Pitt is survived by her husband, William, and her three children.
