Pete Davidson Cut His Circle Down to Three Friends Becaus…

Pete Davidson has learned from Eddie Murphy to keep his circle of friends very tight.

Davidson revealed to People how watching Eddie Murphy, with whom he stars in the Prime Video movie The Pickup, has inspired him to shape his own life.

“I’ve been guilty of having 700 friends in the green room,” Davidson said. “People I just met or are just in the crew, and then I’m like, ‘Why did they not have my best interest in mind?’”

Davidson then explained the way Murphy operates pushed him to make a change.

“He has a really small crew, and it’s the same people for a really long time, and I think that’s really important to have an efficient career and just overall life in this business,” Davidson said. “You have to be able to trust who’s around you, and you got to be able to move a certain type of way.”

For Davidson, that meant shrinking his close circle.

“Pretty much after that movie I was like, ‘OK, I have three friends. Here’s who they are. Here’s who I have to trust and share things with,’” Davidson joked.

In other recent Davidson news, the comedian opened up about the (lack of) advice he received from Murphy about being a father. Davidson, who’s preparing to have a child with Elsie Hewitt, explained that a lot of fathers have reached out to him to talk about fatherhood.

But Murphy had a different approach.

“Eddie was like, ‘I got no advice for you.’ He goes, ‘You’re on your own,'” Davidson said in on Late Night with Seth Meyers. “He was like, you know, ‘You can’t tell anyone how to do…’ You know, you’re gonna do your own thing.”

Davidson made it clear how amped he is for becoming a father, saying, “I’ve never been more excited for anything.”
