Freddie Gibbs Says Kanye West Was Upset About Feature Ver…

Freddie Gibbs is opening up about his experience working with the artist formerly known as Kanye West, and it wasn’t all positive.

During a recent appearance on the Butcher Block podcast, Gibbs revealed that West was less than thrilled with the Indiana rapper’s contribution to “Back to Me,” one of the standout tracks on Vultures, West’s 2024 collaborative album with Ty Dolla $ign.

“This n***a Kanye was mad about that shit,” Gibbs said around the two-minute mark in the video below. “That n***a was telling n***as like, ‘Man, how the fuck this n***a think his verse is the best on my album?'”

The verse in question drew critical praise upon the album’s release, with Complex even naming it among the year’s best. Gibbs recalled sending the article to Ye, expecting a positive reaction.

“When I sent it to him, I sent it to him thinking that, with the premise, he’d be proud of me. ‘Cause I look up to you,” Gibbs explained. “So I would think that, I rapped on your album, and people talking about it like this, you would think that a n***a like you would be proud of me. […] That pissed him off.”

Gibbs has long admired West’s music, previously flipping the “No More Parties in LA” beat for his own track “Cocaine Parties in LA” and rapping over Ye’s production on earlier mixtapes. But his recent experience seemed to sour that admiration, with Gibbs admitting the collaboration left him disappointed.

Despite the tension, Gibbs noted there’s a silver lining as working on Vultures strengthened his relationship with Ty Dolla $ign. He closed the podcast segment by confirming that he and Ty have more new music on the way.
