Illegal Sports Streaming Site Streameast Shut Down, 2 Men…

Streameast, the largest live sports piracy platform in the world, has been shut down, and two arrests have been made in Egypt in connection with the illegal streaming site.

As reported by Deadline, an investigation into the illicit streaming platform was launched by the anti-piracy group Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) in cooperation with Egyptian authorities in July 2024.

Streameast boasted over 1.6 billion visits within the past year across 80 associated domains. The platform offered illegal access to countless livestreams of sports, including the FIFA World Cup and UEFA club competitions. Users could also use it to illegally access streams of NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB games.

“Today, ACE scored a resounding victory in its fight to detect, deter, and dismantle criminal perpetrators of digital piracy: by taking down the largest illegal live sports platform anywhere,” said Chairman of ACE and Chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association, Charles Rivkin. “With this landmark action, we have put more points on the board for sports leagues, entertainment companies, and fans worldwide—and our global alliance will stay on the field as long as it takes to identify and target the biggest piracy rings across the globe.”

Two men were arrested in Cairo in connection with the piracy operation on Aug. 24 and were charged with suspicion of copyright infringement. Authorities also seized three laptops, four smartphones, and 10 Visa cards with approximately $123,000 dollars and $200,000 in cryptocurrency.

With the shutdown of the websites, Streameast domains will now redirect users to watch their sport of choice legally.

“This action swiftly dismantled what was once the largest illegal sports streaming operation in the world, and I applaud the Egyptian authorities for their partnership,” said Larissa Knapp, executive vice president and chief content protection officer for the Motion Picture Association. “It’s further proof that no piracy network is beyond the reach of coordinated global enforcement.”
