Sophie Cunningham Fires Back at Skip Bayless Calling Her …

Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham fired back at Skip Bayless for calling her a “textbook clout chaser” on the latest episode of Show Me Something.

“Dude, Skip, who’s the clout chaser? You’re literally using my name as your headline, so people can click on it,” Cunningham said. “And, like, my thing is, I don’t mind the guy. I don’t mind the guy. I have no beef with you. I’ve never met you, I’ve actually really never listened to you.”

Cunningham said she was unaware of the video in which Skip responded to her defense of teammate Caitlin Clark, with “A Textbook Clout Chaser,” written across the thumbnail, until someone sent it to her.

“He’s calling me a clout chaser, dude, you’re the one who has my name plastered all over your YouTube that had 36 views, like get out of here,” she added.

Cunningham also addressed Bayless’ remark about her defending Clark in interviews and protecting her teammate on the court. “I’ve always been this way,” she said. “In college, I was that way. Don’t mess with me. Don’t mess with my teammates.”

Cunningham became known as the enforcer on the Fever after she committed a hard foul on Jacy Sheldon during a June 17 game against the Connecticut Sun. The foul was seemingly in retaliation after Sheldon poked Clark in the eye earlier in the game.

In hockey, there’s usually one player on the team who assumes the role of enforcer, responding to hits or actions that are perceived to be dirty or uncalled for. This enforcer can also be expected to stand up for the star player. If Cunningham is considered the enforcer on the Fever, then she was doing her job correctly.

Following the on-court altercation that led to Cunningham’s ejection from the game, she and Clark appeared to become good friends.

Cunningham has also been an outspoken supporter of Clark. On the debut episode of Show Me Something, she slammed those who do not believe her teammate being the face of the WNBA.

“We have a lot of badasses in our league. Like, hell yeah to that. I’m all for that,” Cunningham said. “But when people try to argue that she’s not the face of our league, or if our league would be where we’re at without her, you’re dumb as shit. You’re literally dumb as fuck.”
