Florida Man Calls Police After Wild Boar Barrels Into His…
It’s not unusual to hear about a Florida man finding gators in swimming pools or snakes under the hood of a car. But a wild boar crashing through a sliding glass door and tearing up someone’s living room? That’s a new one.
Deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office were called out to a home in Lehigh Acres after the animal barreled straight into the house. Bodycam video shows the deputies stepping into the living room, only to find the uninvited guest pacing around like it owned the place.
Ed, the homeowner, said he was caught off guard while sitting on the couch, and noticed the family dog got hurt before he realized he was about to encounter a prickly porcine intruder.
“The dog came running in the house with blood dripping off of it, and I went to go see what was wrong with the dog,” he told Gulf Coast News. “I turn my head, and there was this huge explosion.” That “explosion” was the boar smashing through glass, sending his dog scrambling and him scrambling for cover.
Ed grabbed his walker to block himself from the charging hog. His daughter, Stacy Wells, said that simple move may have kept the situation from getting worse. “By putting the rollator in front of him, he wasn’t an immediate target,” she explained.
The animal hung around for nearly an hour—calm one moment, aggressive the next. When deputies tried to corral it with a rope, the boar charged, forcing officers to stand their ground until the hog finally bolted out the door and disappeared back into the woods.
The family dog needed medical attention, but everyone else came out unharmed. Authorities later reminded residents that if a wild animal ends up inside your home, the safest thing to do is keep your distance and call in the pros, like the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
