Selena Gomez Playfully Snoops on Martin Short Texting Mer…

Selena Gomez snuck a peek at Martin Short happily texting three-time Academy Awards winner Meryl Streep in the middle of the 2025 Primetime Emmys.

During the awards ceremony on Sunday (September 14), Gomez was seated next to her Only Murders In the Building cast mates Short and Steve Martin, along with her fiancé, songwriter and producer Benny Blanco. During a break, the actress-singer looked over at Short, who appeared giddy while tapping away on his phone.

“Marty’s texting Meryl,” Gomez coyly told Blanco in a clip recorded by Deadline.

Although Streep has been legally married to sculptor Don Gummer since 1978, the two have been separated since 2017. Streep and Gummer share four children, including Louisa Jacobson, star of HBO period drama The Gilded Age. From 1980 to 2010, Short was married to the late actress and singer Nancy Dolman, with whom he adopted two children. Dolman died in 2010 from ovarian cancer.

Although Streep is hard at work on the Devil Wears Prada sequel, she’s been a recurring cast member on Only Murders In the Building since 2023, where she’s reportedly gotten friendly with Short. On the hit Hulu dramedy, Oliver Putnam (Short) and Loretta Durkin (Streep) are love interests.

During a June episode of podcast Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, Short recounted how “nervous” he was seeing Streep on the show’s set.

“I remember the first day working with Meryl and driving to the studio and thinking, Hmm, I’m nervous today. I haven’t been nervous going to the set for a long time,” Short said around the 34-minute mark of the video below. “Oh yeah, it’s Meryl Streep.“
