‘Monster: The Ed Gein Story’ on Netflix: Cast, Release Da…

Monster: The Ed Gein Story releases soon, and it’s not for the faint of heart.

The series dramatizes the life of Ed Gein, the so-called “Butcher of Plainfield,” whose horrific acts shocked the nation and later influenced films including Psycho and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Who Plays Ed Gein in Monster: The Ed Gein Story?

Charlie Hunnam plays Gein, and he admitted the role took a toll on his mental health. “I had the nightmares before I started,” he previously told Variety. “Once I got into it, it was a little easier. But I, for a second, thought maybe I’d made a horrible mistake when I started doing my research and realizing just how despicable some of the stuff he did was.”

The Sons of Anarchy star went on to explain that the show aims to capture more than just the horrors. “We tell a very varied, almost all-encompassing version of who he was,” he said. “So there’s the gruesomeness, but there’s also a little bit of, well, I don’t want to say tenderness, but you do see the human in there.”

Is Monster: The Ed Gein Story a Sequel to Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story?

Monster: The Ed Gein Story is the third installment in Netflix’s Monster series, which tackles different true-crime stories. The first was 2022’s Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, exploring the life and crimes of the notorious serial killer. The second, 2024’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, focused on the 1989 murders of José and Kitty Menendez by their sons.
