LeBron James Breaks Down His Biggest Memes

LeBron James broke down three of his biggest viral internet memes during his recent appearance on Complex’s 360 With Speedy.

Around the 11:12 mark in the conversation, which covered everything from his financial status to his longtime marriage to Savannah, James delved into the real stories behind three moments that still appear on social media feeds years after they happened. Here’s James on saying “Happy International Women’s Day”; looking confused while saying “Ain’t that our ball”; and seemingly inventing the concept of the deluxe album.

“First off, Happy International Women’s Day”

“It was just a moment. It is what it is; it was what it was. The two women were [Lakers owner and president] Jeanie Buss and [Lakers Executive Director of Special Projects] Linda Rambis. I went over there. I wasn’t playing that night. Unfortunately, I was injured. And that was the first thing that came to mind, then the conversation started. I guess it was a conversation starter.”

“Ain’t that our ball?”

“We were in the bubble, first of all. And if anybody knows about the bubble stories…it was a mindfuck in the bubble. At the end of the day, we’re trying to win a game and we’re trying to win a championship. I wasn’t in the game then, but I knew when we came off the court that it was our ball. When the whistle blew and the other team had the ball, I was like, ‘What the fuck is going on?'”

“Inventing” the deluxe album

“I’m a music guy who loves music, but at the time I didn’t know the ins and outs of what makes a deluxe album. We were in the studio all night and 2 Chainz was talking about the album and how the songs can be placed and how they flow. It was two tracks that weren’t gonna make the final cut that I really fucking liked. In my mind, I’m like, ‘Bro, you gotta release it, and they gotta go on the deluxe.’”
