Adidas Samba OG Pony Hair ‘Core Black/Cream White’ Release Date KJ8900

If sneaker loafer hybrids and low-profile, 1970s-inspired shoes are the defining athletic footwear trends of 2025, a close third would have to be (faux) pony hair. The shiny, textured material has been seen in countless animal-patterned looks across some of the biggest “it” sneakers of the 2020s including the Adidas Samba and Nike Air Force 1. Soon, the former will receive yet another pony hair-covered release, this time in a simple black-and-cream combination.

The classic-styled Adidas Samba OG will soon arrive in a Core Black/Cream White/Gum colorway which has a nearly full pony hair construction. The material is omitted from the Samba’s signature “t-toe” tip, eyestay and tongue, each of which are outfitted in a smooth black leather. The look then gets a slight vintage edge through cream-colored leather accents on the heel tab and on the lateral and medial serrated three stripes branding. At the bottom, a sneaker enthusiast-favorite translucent rubber outsole finishes off the look.

While this isn’t the most adventurous approach Adidas has taken to its fur-covered sneakers, it’s a contender for the most wearable. This year alone, the brand has released leopard and cow-patterned Superstars along with cheetah-printed Sambas. And before the year is over, the Samba is expected to arrive accented with Dalmatian spots through an official “101 Dalmatians” collaboration with Disney.

The Adidas Samba was named Shoe of the Year at the 2023 FN Achievement Awards. While the model’s energy has cooled off a bit since then, it’s been firmly established as a staple sneaker for the foreseeable future. 

And the pony hair aesthetic isn’t sequestered to Adidas. Along with the aforementioned Air Force 1, Nike, Inc. has issued numerous pony hair pairs including Air Jordan Mules, Field Generals and upcoming Air Max Goadome boot styles.
