Dancers Against Cancer is set to host its annual Gala of the Stars on October 21 at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, and the lineup of honorees makes it one of the organization’s biggest nights yet.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the evening will begin with a performance from Debbie Gibson, who is also receiving the Advocate Award for her work supporting the dance community.
Other honorees include Derek Hough, who will be recognized with the Innovator Award, and Julie McDonald, who is receiving the Trailblazer Award presented by Kenny Ortega and Tony Selznick. Christopher Scott will be named Film Choreographer of the Year, with Jamal Sims presenting.
Robbie Blue will be honored as Role Model of the Year, while Ben Vereen will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. Mandy Moore will be acknowledged for her stage work with the Live Performance Choreographer of the Year honor, which Skylar Astin will present. Additionally, Kaeli Ware is set to take home the Witch Legacy Award, presented by Allison Holker.
The program also highlights young dancers through a special DAC Icons performance choreographed by JoJo Siwa. Maks Chmerkovskiy, a longtime Dancing With the Stars pro, will host the night.
At the center of the gala is Janet Jackson, who will be recognized with the Icon Award. The honor will be presented by Liza Minnelli, marking Minnelli’s first major public appearance since the 2022 Academy Awards.
The organization praised Jackson for her “unmatched influence on music, dance and culture, as well as her continued advocacy for compassion, empowerment and artistic excellence.”
“Janet Jackson represents everything this award stands for — strength, innovation, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to artistic integrity,” said Adrian Ruiz, president of Gala of the Stars and Dancers Against Cancer. “Her influence transcends generations. Honoring her at this year’s Gala not only celebrates her legacy, but also her enduring impact on the dance community and the power of using art for good.”
Noah Lands, CEO and executive producer of the gala, added, “Janet’s artistry has inspired millions, including countless dancers who found their voice through movement because of her. This award is a tribute to a true visionary whose work embodies the soul of performance and the heart of philanthropy.”
