Simu Liu Says Script Draft for Film Adaptation of ‘Sleepi…

Simu Liu has a promising update on the Sleeping Dogs movie.

The actor took to social media on Saturday (Oct. 18) to share that a draft of a script for the film adaptation of the 2012 video game was “done.”

“in honour of our sleeping dogs script draft being done, here’s my sleepy dog,” wrote the 36-year-old on his X account with a thumbs up emoji.

When a fan asked Liu how he “worked things out” with the game’s publisher, Square Enix, the actor replied, “They’re absolutely great it’s the studios that don’t seem to understand how important this IP is BUT we will get them there.”

According to Game Rant, Liu has been working on the project since he first announced his intentions to bring the beloved game to the big screen in January 2025. Reports also suggest that the production company Story Kitchen is leading the project, and Liu is expected to play the lead role of Wei Shen.

The original Sleeping Dogs game was released in 2012. A sequel for the game was canceled.

In the meantime, Liu is set to reprise his role as Shang-Chi in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film, set for release in December, 2026.

“I mean, what an incredible call to get. I experienced kind of many waves of excitement,” he said about the Marvel film during an appearance at New York Comic-Con, per ScreenRant. “I think first getting that call and then learning who else was gonna be there, some of whom I had had the pleasure of meeting and some I had not yet met. But each and every one of them just iconic, iconic people.”
