Brandy and Monica’s Chicago Concert Ends Abruptly, Leavin…
An abrupt end to a show during Brandy and Monica’s The Boy Is Mine Tour has left fans confused about what happened.
Footage of videos shared on social media from the pair’s concert at Chicago’s United Center on Oct. 18 show that Brandy left the stage mid-performance due to what seemed to be sound issues.
“Give me one second, y’all I gotta get my…” Brandy began as she walked offstage.
But Brandy didn’t return, and fans said Monica performed the rest of the songs on the setlist by herself. Sadly, the audience wasn’t able to hear the duo perform the tour’s namesake, their 1998 hit single “The Boy Is Mine.”
Brandy and Monica’s The Boy Is Mine Tour kicked off on Oct. 16 in Cincinnati. During a recent Instagram Live, Monica revealed that just two weeks before it started, she was diagnosed with temporary paralysis of her right vocal chord.
“I thank God for where I am because we found out what…two weeks before the tour, that my right chord has temporary paralysis,” she said, looking to Brandy, who joined her at her side.
Brandy said that she couldn’t begin to understand what her tour mate was “going through vocally.”
In June, Brandy and Monica appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and revealed the inspiration for their hit song to be The Jerry Springer Show.
“I was a huge Jerry Springer fan,” Brandy said. “One of the topics was ‘The boy is mine,’ and I’m like, ‘Oh my God. Song idea. Let’s do this.’”
Earlier that month, the two singers spoke on CBS Mornings about finally linking up to tour together. “They were trying to get us to do a tour since ’98,” Brandy said.
“It just finally felt like the right time.” Monica added. “It’s a musical marriage. When you start to go on a tour, especially of this caliber, we have to talk about everything.”
