Ciara Legally Changed Future Jr.’s Name to Include Wilson
Ciara’s 11-year-old son from her relationship with Future now officially has Russell Wilson’s last name, too.
As reported by TMZ, sources close to Ciara and Russell confirmed that a few years ago, the singer-songwriter added Wilson to the name of Future Zahir, aka Future Jr.
That means that Future Sr.’s last name, Wilburn, is still part of his legal name.
Speculation about the name was sparked earlier this week after Russell shared a photo that called Future Zahir “Future Wilson,” which led to some fans to believe that Russell had officially adopted him.
Ciara has full custody of her 11-year-old son with Future, to whom she was engaged in 2013. She later ended the engagement, not long after they welcomed their son in 2014.
Ciara started dating Russell in 2015, and they got married the following year. They’ve since welcomed three children, with the most recent child arriving in 2023.
Earlier this year, Russell Wilson shared a sentimental dedication to his stepson. “Happy birthday Future!!! We’re so proud of the young man you are! 11 years old and you somehow teach me something new every day!” Russell captioned the Instagram post.
He also referred to his stepson as a “great son,” his “best friend,” and a “great big brother” to his stepsiblings Sienna, Win, and Amora.
“You are the Light of the World! Daddy and Mommy love you so much!!!” Russell added.
Russell also indicated that he knew early on that he was destined to raise Future Jr. as his own son.
“When I walked in the room and I saw, you know, little Future—he’s nine months at the time or whatever—he crawls in my lap and it was like, you know, this is going to be my responsibility,” he said on the I Am Athlete podcast.
