Daughter of Erik Menendez Shares Outrage Over Parole Deci…
On the evening of Thursday, August 21, the California Board of Parole Hearings announced its decision on whether or not Erik Menendez should be granted parole. Much to the disappointment of many of his family members and supporters, this request was denied.
The Board cited prison infractions that Menendez committed during his 35 years behind bars as the primary reason he will have to wait at least another three years before becoming eligible for parole again.
In 1999, Erik married his wife, Tammi Menendez, in a prison ceremony. He then adopted Tammi’s daughter, Talia. In recent years, Talia has advocated for her father’s release from prison. Talia was clearly very upset upon finding out the news of the recent parole decision.
She reacted to the news on her Instagram stories, writing, “How is my dad a threat to society! A 3-year denial??? Hell is about to break loose!!!”
In a later Instagram story, she called out celebrities for not speaking out about the decision.
“Where are the celebrities that were ‘advocating’ for them???? It’s been WAY TOO QUIET,” she wrote.
Talia also noted that actor Cooper Koch is the only celebrity who has been supporting her and her family. Koch played Erik in the popular Netflix true crime series, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.
“The only one that I can say has been checking in on my family is Cooper, and we absolutely adore him,” she wrote. “To the ones that went to the prison without any background checks to film their show, but are staying quiet now.”
During the parole hearing, Commissioner Robert Barton said the following to Erik, who is now 54 years old.
“I believe in redemption or I wouldn’t be doing this job … but based on the legal standards, we find that you continue to pose an unreasonable risk to public safety.”
Erik and his brother Lyle murdered their parents, José and Kitty Menendez, in 1989.
