Father Says Son’s Broken Arm Kept Him Home from Deadly Sc…
One father is thanking his son’s broken arm for keeping his child safe during the deadly Catholic school shooting that occurred in Minneapolis.
Fox 9 reporter Corin Hoggard shared the story live from the scene of the horrific shooting, telling colleagues, “I also talked to a boy who lives just down the street here, he’s a student at Annunciation. He broke his arm last week and he re-injured himself last night so he didn’t go to school today. Pretty fortunate broken arm, his father told me it’s the ‘luckiest broken arm in the history of the world.’”
Hoggard then got choked up, holding a paper airplane he said, “But with one arm he made this paper airplane that he wanted to give to a reporter to thank them for coming out here and covering this story and I was just shocked.”
Hoggard continued, “The gesture was just so touching. He’s a lucky kid this morning, he had two classmates who are among those being treated in the hospital right now so he would have actually been in there pretty close to where the gunfire actually went.”
Shots rang out at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis during a morning mass service on August 27. Officials confirmed two children—ages 8 and 9 were killed in the incident and 17 others injured.
Officials say the suspect, wearing all black, fired through windows and was carrying carrying a shotgun, rifle, and pistol. The suspect then turned the gun on himself and is also dead.
In the moments following the attack, the Richfield Police Department put up a statement on Facebook detailing the shooting and adding, “EMS has requested a Mass Casualty Response and fire crews are bringing in additional resources.”
The statement continued, “Initial information indicated the suspect shooter is no longer a threat. However, out of an abundance of caution, we have increased Richfield’s patrol staffing to provide additional resources in Richfield and assistance to Minneapolis.”
