Fred VanVleet of the Houston Rockets Has Suffered a Torn …

Houston Rockets point guard Fred VanVleet could be out for the 2025-26 season after suffering a torn ACL.
As reported by Shams Charania for ESPN, the 31-year-old NBA champion—who previously played for the Toronto Raptors—has suffered a torn ACL, according to sources close to the franchise. The injury comes just one month before the new NBA season and follows his two-year, $50 million extension with the Rockets in June.
When VanVleet signed with the Rockets in the summer of 2023, he was almost immediately a boon for the franchise. He helped lead the team to 41 wins during his first year with the team, up from 22 wins the previous year. In the last season, the Rockets won 52 games and landed the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference. During the 2024-25 season, he averaged 14.1 points, but that improved to 18.7 in the playoffs.
Despite the potential lack of VanVleet this upcoming season, the team still has a strong lineup bolstered by Kevin Durant’s move to Houston in June. The team also agreed to a three-year, $39 million extension with Steven Adams and committed to a long-term extension with coach Ime Udoka.
