Leonardo DiCaprio, who’s notorious for dating women in their 20s, said he feels like he’s in his 30s despite turning 50 last November.
The Academy Award winner, who stars in upcoming action drama One Battle After Another, is on the August cover of Esquire and was interviewed by director Paul Thomas Anderson.
On behalf of the publication, Anderson asked DiCaprio if he felt turning 50 has been a “natural time for reflection.”
“‘You turned emotionally 35 last year,'” the actor countered.
“‘Your age is 50, but your emotional maturity is 32.’ How does that feel?” Anderson tried.
DiCaprio said that getting older “creates a feeling like you have a desire to just be more honest and not waste your time.”
“I can only imagine how the next few decades are going to progress,” he continued. “I look at my mother, for example, and she just says exactly what she thinks and wastes no time. She spends no time trying to fake it.”
The actor added that both professionally and personally, he’s gotten comfortable “being more upfront” and “risking having things fall apart” than staying silent and “risk going your separate ways from any type of relationship in life.”
“You have to just be much more upfront. It’s almost a responsibility because much more of your life is behind you than it is ahead of you,” he concluded.
DiCaprio, who was notoriously a member of the 1990s teen clique the Pussy Posse, has repeatedly brushed off rumors about having an affinity for women in their early 20s.
The running joke is that the actor breaks up with young women before they turn 25 years old. He dated his ex-girlfriend, Camila Morrone, now 28, from 2018 to 2022.
Last year, a source close to DiCaprio told the Daily Mail that the actor was “not keen on the hype suggesting that he is seeking out these very young women.”
“He wants to ditch this image once and for all, and he is really bothered that this continues to follow him,” the source continued. “Leo wants something like he had with Camila, something real.”
