Man Says ICE Took Wife Before Her Body Was Found

Authorities suspect a woman was killed by her husband after doorbell footage captured a man, believed to be her husband, dragging a large object near their apartment before her body was discovered.

According to Law & Crime, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office is determining whether to file murder charges against Jossimar Cabrera, 36, who fled the United States after the body of his 33-year-old wife Sheylla Gutierrez was found. Cabrera initially told investigators that his wife was taken by ICE. He changed his story twice, claiming she left him for another man, and had an accident.

Her body was found inside a large piece of material over the side of an embankment in the Angeles National Forest on Aug. 16, four days after she was reported missing. An investigation was launched when deputes “suspected foul play may have been involved.”

Investigators later found a doorbell video in which Jossimar was allegedly seen dragging a large piece of material in the walkway of their apartment complex in the early morning hours of Aug. 10. When authorities went to speak with Cabrera, they found out that he and their three sons, ages 9, 6 and 4, fled the country.

Peruvian authorities informed investigators that their children were found, and taken into protective custody.

Cabrera was apparently taken into police custody in Peru, but released because there was no warrant for his arrest at the time. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office believes Cabrera remains in Peru.

Gutierrez’s mother said her daughter previously reported Cabrera for domestic violence in Peru. Gutierrez planned on filing a report against him in California, based on what was their final conversation, as reported by KABC.
