New Balance Abzorb 2000 ‘Rose Sugar’ & ‘Pearl Gray’ Release Date

New Balance’s Y2K-informed Abzorb 2000 sneaker has already had quite a roll out this year, arriving in a variety of gradient styles and limited-edition collaborations with the likes of Aminé and Joe Freshgoods. And on Wednesday, the model’s lineup will grow with the release of two new distinctly contrasting styles.

First up is the New Balance Abzorb 2000 in Rose Sugar/Monarch Burgundy. The new style blends a nearly white, soft pink synthetic upper with a pink gradient fade mesh design. The pastel hues are broken up at the bottom of this pair with burgundy rubber below the shoe’s signature Abzorb SBS cushioning pods. 

For those seeking something that may better hide dirt and scuffs in fall/winter weather, the Abzorb 2000 is also coming out in a Pearl Gray/Black combination. Like the pink style, this pair uses a gradient fade from dark to light gray on its mesh, while the rest of the shoe’s components are outfitted in dark gray and black. 

Aside from the aforementioned Aminé collaborations, the Rose Sugar style represents the most color New Balance has injected into the new model thus far. Even Joe Freshgoods’ Paris-exclusive “Everything Comes From Pink” collaboration featured a more muted palette compared to the vivid shades of the upcoming release.

In June, New Balance designer Charlotte Lee walked FN through the design process of the Abzorb 2000 which included the use of a new virtual reality tool called Gravity Sketch. 

“I really drew references from what the future looked like in the early 2000s, and I think it’s still relevant now,” Lee said of the sneaker’s Y2K inspiration. “I think the early 2000s design aesthetic and design movement is an interesting one because it feels very recent.”

Both of these New Balance Abzorb 2000 styles will be released Wednesday from newbalance.com and select retailers for $170 each. The style code for the Rose Sugar colorway is U2000PBC, while the Pearl Gray is U2000PCD.
