Nike Air Max 95000 Release Date
Nike began its 3D printing journey with Zellerfeld by rejiggering the original Air Max sneaker, and for phase two, they’re now moving on to another icon of the franchise.
The Nike Air Max 95000 continues the year of the “Big Bubble” Air Max 95 with a new form of 3D-printing technology called Project Nectar, allowing for the creation of greater details. You can see it in the sweeping line coursing through the upper much like its source material, and the tech rears its head again on logos and outsole, the latter of which for the purpose of greater durability and traction. Each of these elements are green on the shoe’s debut colorway, allowing them to stand out from the 3D-printing tech previously used on the Air Max 1000.
Also carrying over from the Air Max 95 is the midsole’s Air configuration, with the “Big Bubble” unit sitting at the heel and a smaller one at the forefoot. These bubbles are actually Air Zoom, however, which offers more modern tech than what was used 30 years ago.
“We never would have been able to create this silhouette using traditional methods, and this sculptural, contoured design and futuristic application of Air is only the beginning of a multi-year journey with Zellerfeld and what we see as unlimited possibility in a new era of 3D-printed footwear,” Brittany Shelton, Nike vice president of North America Brand Management, said in a press release.
Project Nectar, developed in-house by Nike, is TPU-based and allows for additive manufacturing in the course of production. Printing a full pair of the Air Max 95000 takes 48 hours, but the Project Nectar portion is finished in less than a minute.
In a call with journalists, a rep from Nike said the brand and Zellerfeld are pushing toward 3D-printed tailored to a customer’s feet. Additional colorways for the Air Max 95000 were also previewed.
The Nike Air Max 95000 will launch in a “black/Volt” colorway this weekend at ComplexCon before a wider release on Nov. 27 through the Snkrs app and Zellerfeld’s website. Pricing is set at $250.
