Rapper Who Hired NYPD Officer for Video Says He Works for…

After going viral earlier this year for hiring an NYPD detective to play a stripper in his “Doin That” music video, NYC rapper S-Quire is coming clean about his own alleged ties to law enforcement.
S-Quire, whose real name is Phabian Winfield, is set to release a documentary next month titled The Making of a Moment. The film will delve into the fallout and controversy surrounding the “Doin That” video and detective Melissa Mercado’s appearance in it, while also exploring his alleged employment with the Department of Homeland Security.
According to a press release, S-Quire reveals in the documentary that he was serving as a federal officer for Homeland Security at one point. “This film isn’t about hype—it’s about truth,” he teased in the trailer, which can be seen above. “I stayed silent while the internet judged me, but now the full story comes out.”
S-Quire’s “Doin That” video caused something of a stir when it debuted earlier this year. The video, directed by Picture Perfect and distributed by WorldStarHipHop, featured Mercado, a seven-year veteran of the NYPD who works as a detective for its Special Victim’s Unit.
“What she’s doing really has nothing to do with her as an employee, as an NYC detective,” a police union source told The New York Post at the time. “She’s not wearing NYPD paraphernalia. Nothing in the video says she’s a detective. If she is performing for money, if she has a side gig, the job would want to know about that. The member would be obligated to file an off-duty employment application. I would say nothing she does in the video is the department’s business.”
S-Quire later addressed the situation and said that he didn’t know about her day job before she was hired for the video through a casting agency. “After everything went down and I’m watching all of this and now I’m seeing the narrative change like, I have a family, too. This lady has a family, too,” S-Quire told TMZ. “And I think that’s more important right now.”
