Serena Williams Stuns in Gucci at Milan Fashion Week

Serena Williams brought star power to Milan Fashion Week on September 23, stepping out in a dramatic Gucci look for the debut of Demna’s spring 2026 collection.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion attended both the brand’s runway show and the premiere of The Tiger, a short film directed by Spike Jonze and Halina Reijn that set the tone for Gucci’s new era.
WWD had all the details on Williams’ look: she arrived in a floor-length black gown that balanced sleek minimalism with bold detailing. The semi-sheer fabric featured Gucci’s iconic monogram, while feathery embellishments framed the cuffs, neckline, and hemline.
A subtle train trailed behind her as she walked the red carpet, underscoring the garment’s statement appeal. She completed the look with open-toe heels, a tousled updo, and deep plum makeup that tied the ensemble together.
The appearance marked one of Williams’ first major fashion week outings since stepping back from tennis in 2022, a reminder of her dual presence in both sport and style.
Her connection to Gucci stretches back several years, and her latest outing reaffirmed her place on the guest list of the industry’s biggest fashion moments.
The show itself was historic for the brand. Demna, who previously led Balenciaga, made his official debut as Gucci’s new artistic director after being appointed in March.
Expectations for the designer were high, but he made clear in interviews that his focus would not be on repeating past formulas. “I feel like it’s superficial to expect that from me,” Demna told WWD. “For me, people who expect that, they don’t really know, artistically, who I am.”
His first collection drew on Gucci’s vast archive of codes—from bamboo handles to floral silks—while simultaneously pushing the house in a new direction. Williams’ look captured that balance: rooted in Gucci’s signature motifs, yet forward-facing in its use of bold textures and silhouettes.
