That’s Madeline! A Lingerie-Clad Dakota Johnson Joins Lily Allen on ‘SNL’

Lily Allen returned to the Saturday Night Live stage yesterday evening, 18 years after her last appearance. The pop star performed two tracks from her raw, confessional, much-discussed album, West End Girl. She kicked things off with “Sleepwalking,” and finished with “Madeline,” a song about confronting the woman her husband is cheating on her with—a pivotal album track that’s gotten plenty of people pondering over the true identity of ‘Madeline.’ Last night, Dakota Johnson dressed up in her best lingerie to take on the role.

While Allen performed the track, Johnson stayed behind a sheer curtain, lounging on a boudoir bed under hazy pink lights until her cameo moment. Johnson, not yet revealed, read out the texts sent to Allen from ‘Madeline,’ emerging from behind the curtain to kiss her on the cheek—“Love and light,” she concluded. Gag!

It was also one of many stylish moments across the show—Johnson wore a ’20s-esque sheer and lacy teddy dress from Bode, with gold ribbons and rosette appliqué, which she paired with a sheer sequined duster coat made of black mesh and crinkled gold foil, also from Bode. For jewelry, she opted for beaded purple Lizzie Fortunato earrings, an emerald necklace from Roxanne Assoulin, and several rings by Sophie Bille Brahe and her favorite, Jessica McCormack. While it very much fit the vibe of the boudoir-y setting, it was also in total step with the Dakota Johnson sheer and sexy school of style.
