Portuguese label Burel Factory introduces breathable wool summer line

Portuguese textile label Burel Factory has introduced its first summer clothing line, Lagoa—a collection designed using a lightweight wool fabric developed at the brand’s mill in the Serra da Estrela mountains. Known for its heritage in wool craftsmanship, Burel Factory describes the new fabric as “light, breathable and incredibly soft,” reimagining traditional wool as “fresh, fluid and ideal for the hottest days.”

Although crafted from wool burel—the traditional material that inspired the brand’s name—the pieces are designed for warm weather. The fabric is derived from natural shearing and Serra da Estrela’s ancestral textile practices, originally developed to clothe mountain shepherds. Burel Factory emphasizes the fabric’s natural ability to regulate temperature and its semi-transparent finish, making it ideal for summer.

The idea for Lagoa began with a creative challenge. While preparing for an exhibition in New York, an artist friend asked the factory director to create something light, ethereal and breathable. That simple request sparked a wave of experimentation—one that ultimately gave rise to the Lagoa fabric.

According to Burel Factory, the garments are “designed for freedom of movement, with sculptural lines and the delicacy of handwork,” resulting in “a fresh and harmonious collection.”

Inspired by the Beira region’s deep valleys and green meadows, Lagoa marks a new direction for the brand. Burel Factory positions the collection not only as light and versatile but also as a reflection of its innovative spirit rooted in tradition.

Prices start at approximately 62 euros for the Lagoa Shopper in wool net and reach 179 euros for the Nervuras Sleeveless Dress with ribs, also in wool net. All items are 100% made in Portugal.
