Lil Uzi Vert on First Pair of Skinny Jeans: ‘My Dad Ain’t…

Lil Uzi Vert might be a style icon, but apparently the rapper’s dad didn’t initially see the vision.

Uzi, who uses they/them pronouns, spoke with GQ about their style journey in a video posted on Wednesday (September 17), where early on, they were asked about their first pair of skinny jeans.

“My first pair of skinny jeans was my mom’s jeans,” Uzi said. “So I wear like a longer–not super oversized– but the sleeves would be cut short, like just a tee.
But since I was small, if you wear a grown man’s small, it’s kind of long.”

The Eternal Atake 2 artist added that they would have their “pants pulled all the way up” so that people “couldn’t see that they [were] kind of big.” But while skinny jeans were a trend when Uzi hit the scene in the 2010s, their dad wasn’t a fan.

“My dad ain’t rock with that,” Uzi explained. “He wasn’t on like us getting tattoos.
He ain’t let me get piercings. But my dad’s my man, it ain’t like it was a problem.
It became normal after a while.”

“No matter what I wear, no matter like what I say, or how I look, or how I dance,
or what people think about me, I just think about my family. My family love everything I do,” Uzi concluded.

While the rapper’s dad was possibly disappointed that they got facial tattoos and piercings, Uzi explained that they got them because they “wanted them,” citing Lil Wayne and Wiz Khalifa as inspirations.

Before the interview ended, Uzi shouted out girlfriend JT, joking that they often mistake her nickname for Jayson Tatum.
